Masterman Chess Team Wins National Title

Students from Masterman Middle School chess team won the national middle school championship title at the Supernationals tournament held in Nashville, Tennessee this past week-end. The title is the highest awarded for their age group in the country. Over 5,000 players from 49 states attended the event. The ”magnificent” seven champions are Alex, Angel, Srisa, Nalin, Shira, Torin and Alejandro. Their coaches were Stephen Shutt, Greg Shahade, Ross Colby and Leteef Street. Alex came in 2nd place and Nalin and Angel tied for 20th place in the individual competition. Also competing for Masterman in the K-9 under 1250 rated section were 5ht graders, Yuva, Hayden, Zachary and Manus. They won 10th place nationally in their division.
