Dear Masterman Families,

October has been a busy month for the Home and School Association. We hosted a Parent’s Night Out, Family Dinner and Fall Work Day. I appreciate the time and energy that it took to make the events so successful and fun.

November 4th at 6pm: Our next event is the first General Body Home and School Meeting on November 4th at 6pm in the school library. We will start with updates and a question and answer session. We will then focus on volunteer opportunities in the school and for the Home and School Association. This will be the perfect time to find out how YOU can help. I look forward to seeing you there. No RSVP necessary. Let’s continue the fight against cold and flu season- please bring a donation of tissues and/or hand sanitizer to the meeting.
November 12th thru 18th: Save the Date for the Scholastic Book Fair: November 12 thru 18 in the library. More information soon.
November 15th and 16th: Middle School Musical, Guys and Dolls, Jr: November 15th at 7pm and November 16th at 1pm.

Please renew your Home and School membership. We need 100% participation from Masterman families. Not sure if you have renewed? Contact Clara Jerez at

We still need volunteers for High School classes. Contact Section Rep. Coordinator, Valarie Cofield at vcofield@intechconstruction.comto find out more.

Below is an update from school volunteer coordinator, Janet Pinkerton:

Dear Masterman Parents,

I have good news, bad news and two reminders.
Bad news first: Masterman desperately needs parent volunteers during the rest of October through December. The front office is well staffed with volunteers, but the other volunteer opportunities (helping monitor students in the morning, during lunch and after dismissal) are wide open. Please go to Masterman’s Group page on VolunteerSpot at to see if you can help.

Two Bits of Good News:

1) The volunteer schedule is updated to better reflect start and end times of each task. Task times are noticeably shorter! For example, helping to supervise students in the auditorium before school only runs 7:30-8:10am.

2) Each task now also includes tips for parent volunteers AND the rules students know they are to follow. (So parents know what they need to do and what's 'OK' for students to do.)

Finally, the reminders:

1) All of these tasks require that parents have their security clearances. Check out our FAQs about security clearances here:

2) Whatever task you do, always check in at the front office first.

Did you know that supplies also include things like printer ink, toner, computer batteries, adaptors and headsets? We have recently purchased all of these items and more with Home and School funds. Your generous donations and membership dues are ensuring that our school continues to thrive. We will need more supplies as the year continues. Watch for announcements for specific items.

The Home and School Association provides staff grants every year. I am delighted to say that we have approved funding for a wide variety of items including: Smart Response Systems, computer programs, on-line database subscriptions, science equipment, saxophones, books, art supplies and even hydrochloric acid!  These are just some of the things that our teachers requested in order to provide the very best education to our children.

I personally thank you for your support which has allowed the Home and School to make a difference in the classrooms. I share with you a message from one of our beloved English teachers:

“I cannot thank you enough for all that you and the HSA are doing for the school. I am constantly amazed by the parents' generosity and ability to help. I feel so cushioned from the School District craziness because of all of you - thanks a million!!”

Contact me any time with your questions or concerns at I hope to see you on November 4th.
