It was a fantastic Friday night at district championships for our Varsity Swimming Dragons. The evening was filled with great swims and medal performances. The girls team earned medals in the 200 meter medley, 200 free and 50 free. The boys side medaled in the 200 free relay and the 100 meter fly. What a program! Good luck to all at states!  Let's hear it for our Squash Teams who once again competed at the National Championships this weekend! The girls were represented by Jaida Brown, Zohar Yurdin, Rowan Bastien, Margaret Olsen, Sophia Plastaras, Vivienne Plastaras, and Noa Yurdin. The boys were represented by Jonathan Djoenaidi, Kyle Luong, Luca Vitiello, Alec Santoro, Sincere Washington, Aiden Maier and Evan Ou. Both teams demonstrated grace , grit and proficiency on the highest stage!  On Wednesday our swim team attended the PIT swim championships. Out of 24 individual races we had 18 best times!
Freshman Laney Grubb placed 1st in the 100 backstroke and 2nd in the 100 free Freshman Maggie Grier placed 1st in the 50 free and 2nd in the 100 breaststroke Junior Celina Pham placed 1st in the 200 free and 3rd in the 100 free Junior Jordan Bellosi placed 1st in the 200 IM and 1000 breaststroke Junior Colin Ryan placed 2nd in the 100 back and 50 free Junior David Mach placed 1st in the 100 breaststroke Micah Neale placed 3rd in the 100 backstroke Junior Lucas Chen placed 1st in the 100 free and 2nd in the 200 free Junior Leon You placed 2nd in the 100 free and 3rd in the 200 free Boys 200 free Relay placed 1st and 400 free Relay placed 2nd Girls 200 free Relay and 400 free Relays both placed 1st. Overall Masterman had a wonderful day at the pool! What a spectacular day for indoor track at the PPL Championships. You all met the moment, performing your best when it mattered the most. And I mean this quite literally, with 14 different athletes setting their personal bests throughout the day. - Coach Renikoff It was a clean sweep for the middle school basketball teams on Friday at AMY James Martin. The girls raced out to a 24-0 lead at halftime and posted a 37-4 win. Juliet Kovatis was a driving force in scoring and rebounding. The boys were awesome again defensively and rallied for a 28-18 triumph to move their record to 3-0 on the season. Both teams are back at it this afternoon at the Masterman Gym vs. Potter Thomas. The Masterman Swimming Dragons left it all in the pool as they finished 2nd overall in the Public League Championships! Coach Vecsi was extremely proud of the dedication and perseverance that these swimmers demonstrated all season long. Masterman finished first in the following events: Boys 200 Medley (Ivan Man, Josh Cheng, Daniel Knapp, Ian Danihel), Girls 200 Free (Isabella Trieu), Boys 200 Free (Lyric Tully), Girls 100 Free (Marika Bowen), Girls 500 Free (Scarlett Vecsi), and Boys 200 Free Relay (Mason Seder, Lyric Tully, Josh Cheng, Daniel Knapp). The team continues to compete as districts and states are on the horizon. Well done! What a great senior night for boys varsity basketball! It was heartwarming to see the outpouring of fan, family and teacher support for our six departing seniors. We are so proud of your hard work and growth throughout the season and over the past four years. While Raj, Prince, Meech, Tony, Abbas and Na'im will truly be missed, they are always welcome back to visit, play in the alumni game, help out with the team, or just hang out. Dragons Forever! The final regular season indoor track meet is in the books. It sets the stage for a great championship next weekend. Here are some highlights, hot off the press:
The MG girls and boys basketball split their games with Greenfield on Tuesday. Both teams displayed fantastic teamwork and sportsmanship! Coach Gold and Coach Broadhurst are proud of the players' strong effort and commitment to building a lasting work ethic, learning, and having fun. Great job, Dragons! After a few bumps in the road due to the snowy weather, we were finally able to celebrate the senior members of the Cheer and Basketball teams on Monday, 2/2! Thank you to everyone who came out to the senior game to show their love and support! It was a wonderful evening! Last week, senior members of our basketball and cheer teams brought the “My Jersey, Your Impact” tradition to Masterman. For those unfamiliar, it is a wonderful tradition where Senior athletes thank teachers/staff members who have had a positive impact on their high schoolexperience by inviting them to their Senior Game and asking them to wear their jersey.
