The boys varsity volleyball team opens its state playoff journey on Tuesday, June 2nd against Crescentville HS in Mountaintop, PA!. The team is performing at its peak and believes it can have a real impact in this year's tourney. The team arrived in the event courtesy of a strong victory over catholic league representative Archbishop Wood. The sky's the limit for this group. Go Big Blue! DRAGON PRIDE!! Coach Gold and our amazing badminton team are looking for their first public league title in the modern era. Most recently, the team survived a pressure filled semifinal match against talented Northeast. Led by Merrisa Wang and April Chen at the first and second singles positions, the team secured a 3-2 victory. With Central looming ahead for the championship match, senior leadership will be paramount. Addy Joshi and Hana Halimitabrizi, our number one doubles team, are more than ready to lead this squad to victory! Let's hear it for our boys varsity baseball team for qualifying for the PIAA state playoffs! With their opponent yet to be determined, the squad will take to the diamond on in two weeks against the top District 1 AA team. After a playoff win over Engineering and Science and a tough loss to Central in the PPL playoffs, this group relishes the opportunity to go against the best in the area. Coach Lerner is proud of the work this team has put in, and is looking forward to a strong showing on June 1st. The Masterman Boys' Lacrosse team is hitting their stride and bulldozing toward the public league playoffs. The squad started its week with with a 7-2 win over top-ranked Olney, and continued their dominance with an impressive 10-2 win over William Tennant. Coach Doyle is "really proud of the fellas" and has his eyes fixed on the PPL championship trophy. LET'S GET IT DONE!!  THE GIRLS 4 X 800M TEAM ARE CITY CHAMPIONS, bringing the gold back home to Masterman for the first time since 2019. Bintou Gamby, Grace O'Connell, Nora Heiskell, and Charlotte O'Connell threw down a performance for the ages - running 10:38. It was all capped off with a nasty 2:31 anchor leg from Charlotte, who found one last gear to hold off Central in the final 30 meters. What a way for Nora to end her 4-year PPL career!  This Sunday, the streets of Philadelphia were filled with energy, and our school will be right in the heart of it! We are incredibly proud to announce that a massive group of our students and staff mentors from Students Run Philly Style took on the 10-mile Broad Street Run. These dedicated runners have spent months training—braving the early mornings and staying after school—to prepare for this iconic Philly tradition. Our participants are: Jayla Coney, Nina Distasio, Piage Fath, Leila Saxton, Nora Findlay, Olivia Saltzman, Isla Trieu, Luck Kuriloff, Hanna McClung, and Nolyn Pace. We are thrilled to celebrate the success of our 8th-grade relay team at last Friday’s Penn Relays. Competing against a formidable field, the team secured a second-place finish by dropping nearly three seconds from their previous qualifying time. The "Dragon Four" demonstrated exceptional teamwork, like a well-oiled machine their handoffs were flawless and the pace was electric. Please join us in applauding Leila Saxton, Nina Distasio, Jayla Coney, and Paige Fath for their remarkable achievement on one of track and field's biggest stages. We are all so proud of this wonderful accomplishment.

Wonderful effort, grit and pride demonstrated by all of our runners!  Students Run Philly Style ran the annual Roger S. Clark Rutgers Law APIL 5K Run for Justice in Camden on March 28. Thirty-one Masterman students and running leaders attended for a chilly but wonderful run along the Camden waterfront. With that in mind, the boys volleyball team generated sparks in the gym with a spirited and gritty performance against top-ranked Palumbo. Led by captains Omar Abouelatta, Jonathan Djoenaidi, and Demetris Brown, the team pushed the visiting Griffins to their limit, presaging exciting days to come. Under the steady influence of Coach A, this unified group hopes to ascend to the pinnacle of the Public League.    "A win against Central is always a good start to the season." Second year coach Brendan Doyle knows the value of strong beginnings, and he got just that from his team with a 10-3 victory over their lacrosse rivals. This group is physically and mentally prepared to face all comers as they take the first step on a challenging road towards a championship that includes stout league rivals and non-league foes. The highest calling is pushing themselves to become a team that is even greater than the sum of its parts. Go LAX! We're about 8 weeks out from the Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run and Students Run Philly Style teams across Philadelphia are already training together for race season. This is the point when it's time to lock in your plans to train for race day. If you don't yet have a bib for the Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run, consider joining the SRPS Charity Runner team to receive guaranteed entry. SRPS Charity Runners commit to raise $750 by April 8th to support Students Run Philly Style's youth mentorship program. Snack Suggestions (Links): The middle school basketball season came to an exciting close this week vs. Munoz-Marin before a packed Masterman gym. Both Masterman teams finished the season with records of eight wins and only one loss. The girls raced out to a quick lead and won going away, 46-11. The boys were victorious, 49-21. The games were followed by a celebratory gathering that recognized an amazing season. Mrs. Broadhurst and Mr. Gold want to again thank the players for their dedication and incredible teamwork all season.  Thanks to the generous funding of the HSA, the Masterman Gym is now equipped to handle more than double its spectator capacity. Five new full length bleachers adorn the north wall of the gym to provide comfort and access for our loyal Dragon fans. The bleachers were packed for the final Middle School basketball games this past week and we look forward to filling them again and again for the upcoming volleyball season! Finishing up fantastic seasons The middle school basketball teams continued their amazing season on Thursday by sweeping Duckrey. Nina Distasio and Juliet Kovatis each scored 13 points, and the girls won 38-27. Caius Colella and Max Koilor led the way offensively for the boys in a 44-35 victory. Each team improved to seven wins against only one loss. The season concludes with a home game at the Masterman gym on Monday vs. Munoz-Marin. Way to go Blue Dragons!! It was a fantastic Friday night at district championships for our Varsity Swimming Dragons. The evening was filled with great swims and medal performances. The girls team earned medals in the 200 meter medley, 200 free and 50 free. The boys side medaled in the 200 free relay and the 100 meter fly. What a program! Good luck to all at states!  Let's hear it for our Squash Teams who once again competed at the National Championships this weekend! The girls were represented by Jaida Brown, Zohar Yurdin, Rowan Bastien, Margaret Olsen, Sophia Plastaras, Vivienne Plastaras, and Noa Yurdin. The boys were represented by Jonathan Djoenaidi, Kyle Luong, Luca Vitiello, Alec Santoro, Sincere Washington, Aiden Maier and Evan Ou. Both teams demonstrated grace , grit and proficiency on the highest stage!  On Wednesday our swim team attended the PIT swim championships. Out of 24 individual races we had 18 best times!

Overall Masterman had a wonderful day at the pool! What a spectacular day for indoor track at the PPL Championships. You all met the moment, performing your best when it mattered the most. And I mean this quite literally, with 14 different athletes setting their personal bests throughout the day. - Coach Renikoff It was a clean sweep for the middle school basketball teams on Friday at AMY James Martin. The girls raced out to a 24-0 lead at halftime and posted a 37-4 win. Juliet Kovatis was a driving force in scoring and rebounding. The boys were awesome again defensively and rallied for a 28-18 triumph to move their record to 3-0 on the season. Both teams are back at it this afternoon at the Masterman Gym vs. Potter Thomas. The Masterman Swimming Dragons left it all in the pool as they finished 2nd overall in the Public League Championships! Coach Vecsi was extremely proud of the dedication and perseverance that these swimmers demonstrated all season long. Masterman finished first in the following events: Boys 200 Medley (Ivan Man, Josh Cheng, Daniel Knapp, Ian Danihel), Girls 200 Free (Isabella Trieu), Boys 200 Free (Lyric Tully), Girls 100 Free (Marika Bowen), Girls 500 Free (Scarlett Vecsi), and Boys 200 Free Relay (Mason Seder, Lyric Tully, Josh Cheng, Daniel Knapp). The team continues to compete as districts and states are on the horizon. Well done! What a great senior night for boys varsity basketball! It was heartwarming to see the outpouring of fan, family and teacher support for our six departing seniors. We are so proud of your hard work and growth throughout the season and over the past four years. While Raj, Prince, Meech, Tony, Abbas and Na'im will truly be missed, they are always welcome back to visit, play in the alumni game, help out with the team, or just hang out. Dragons Forever! The MG girls and boys basketball split their games with Greenfield on Tuesday. Both teams displayed fantastic teamwork and sportsmanship! Coach Gold and Coach Broadhurst are proud of the players' strong effort and commitment to building a lasting work ethic, learning, and having fun. Great job, Dragons! After a few bumps in the road due to the snowy weather, we were finally able to celebrate the senior members of the Cheer and Basketball teams on Monday, 2/2! Thank you to everyone who came out to the senior game to show their love and support! It was a wonderful evening! Last week, senior members of our basketball and cheer teams brought the “My Jersey, Your Impact” tradition to Masterman. For those unfamiliar, it is a wonderful tradition where Senior athletes thank teachers/staff members who have had a positive impact on their high schoolexperience by inviting them to their Senior Game and asking them to wear their jersey.
