The Masterman HSA is pleased to announce over $80,000
|
STAFF GRANTS$300 each
For the 2023-24 School Year, Masterman HSA will award Staff Grants to all teachers and counselors. This grant program is one of the most popular among HSA members and is designed to enhance the quality of instruction at Masterman while also supporting our teachers and supplement existing resources. This year, staff will be reimbursed for appropriate expenses or may submit an invoice, bill, or online shopping cart for direct payment. If strongly preferred, they may request a pre-paid gift card. COACH GRANTS$200 per team
New this year! Coach grants are being offered in the amount of $200 per team, to be used for incidental and one-time needs to support team performance, sportsmanship, or spirit. |
DEPARTMENT GRANTS$1,800 each
The HSA will award $1,800 to each of the following 10 departments at Masterman: 5th Grade, 6th Grade, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, World Language, Physical Education, Related Arts, and Counseling. Please note that for these instruction-oriented grants, 5th and 6th grades count as departments; those grades are also eligible separately for Grade-Level Grants to promote school spirit, class bonding, fun, and wellness. The application for Department Grants will be coordinated by the appropriate school administrator for each department, who are asked to gain consensus with the department regarding best use of funds for materials or initiatives that will be applicable to a majority of students served by the department. The purpose of the grant is to enhance instruction and is not intended for professional development or extracurricular activities. In addition, the grant must have the support of at least 50% of the department’s staff. Administration will review all grants to ensure the requested expenditures cannot be readily funded by the existing school budget and that the expenditures will not jeopardize future budget allocations by the district. |
GRADE-LEVEL GRANTS$1,000 each for grades 5–12
Grade Level Grants may be awarded for up to $1,000 per grade this school year. The objective of the Grade Level Grant is to support and promote school spirit, class bonding, fun, and wellness for every student in each school grade, at no cost to students. Grants may be awarded as one single grant or in separate smaller grants. Funds must be used by the end of the 2023-2024 academic school year. Any unused funds will be allocated to other HSA Grant needs. To apply, we ask that the Class Sponsors, or a student with the Sponsor's approval, complete this form. Each Class Sponsor is asked to work with members of their respective grade's student government leaders to identify opportunities for each grade, based on grade-level interests and other grade-specific planning considerations. Any grant-related activities to be held on school property must have advance approval from the principal to ensure that the school has the ability to provide the resources (both physical space and teacher capacity) to securely allow the activity. COMPETITION GRANTS
This year there are also additional funds in reserve to help support teams that need to travel for higher levels of competition, to make sure that no students are barred from participating due to the cost. These funds will supplement team fundraising and self-funding efforts.

CLUB GRANTS$20,000 total
The HSA has funds designated to support the operating needs of various Masterman clubs, activities, and non-athletic teams. These include academic teams that compete from the city to the national level such as National History Day, Science Olympiad, Ethics Bowl, Debate, Chess, and more; school publications like Vibe and Masterman Voices; Student Government; interest-based and affinity clubs; and service and performance-oriented clubs. Students participate in an educational process of developing their budget and submitting applications with the support of their faculty sponsors. HSA will award club grants through a competitive process, intended to provide transparency and inclusivity, as well as responsiveness to varying club needs. Masterman clubs offer tremendous opportunities for students to build community and friendships across grades, gain valuable leadership skills, and pursue their interests. There is no set amount for these grants; the size of the grant should correlate with the number of students affected and the necessity or impact of the proposed use. As a rough guideline, last year's Club Grants ranged from $150 to $2000. The first deadline for Club Grant applications is November 17, 2023, with decisions announced no later than December 4. Any unused funds allocated by the HSA will be applied to a second round of grants with a grant application deadline in January 2024. |
